Crist Enjoys Official Visit

Notre Dame high school quarterback Dayne Crist has been sold on the University of Notre Dame for quite some time. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound five-star recruit committed to Notre Dame this past April, and this latest trip just confirms what he's always known.

"I had a great time. It was unbelievable," said Dayne Crist of his latest trip to Notre Dame this past weekend on his official visit. "I've already seen all of campus, but this was more about getting to know my future teammates and the players committed in my class."

Another former five-star quarterback was his host this past weekend.

"Jimmy Clausen my host," Crist said. "We had a great time together. We've known each other for awhile, so I was obviously very comfortable with him."

The weekend started out with the annual football banquet, and the Sherman Oaks, Calif. native came away highly impressed by the event.

"It was cool to see that much support for the team," he said. "We already knew how many people supported the team, but it was kind of reiterated seeing it there at the banquet. I really liked hearing Aaron Taylor speak. I really liked what he had to say. You can tell he loves Notre Dame, and the school has helped him immensely. I also really liked hanging out with the other 11 recruits."

His future classmates made a big impression.

"It was actually beneficial to go up there when everyone was up there," said Crist "You essentially got to meet half of your recruiting class and hang out with them for two full days. We just had a great time. I can't think of a single person I didn't hit it off with. Every guy is really dedicated and committed to making this a great team. I think that's really important moving forward. This class has a lot of chemistry, and I think that will help us on the field."

One player all Irish fans are hopeful for is Elkhorn, Neb. native Trevor Robinson, the only player out of the 12 visitors that hasn't yet committed to Notre Dame.

"I think he had a great visit this weekend," Crist said of Robinson. "I think he got a real good idea of what the players were like, and was able to see what the players are like off the field. I think he felt real comfortable with that. I think that was the difference between this trip and the others was his comfort level with that. I think he and his family felt real comfortable with Notre Dame. I'm pretty optimistic about Trevor. I'd really love to play with him, and I hope he commits to us."

The No. 3 rated quarterback also spent some time with head coach Charlie Weis.

"At this point, it was just much more personal," he said of his conversation with Weis. "We've already talked a lot about football, and it doesn't always have to be about football. It was more of just a normal conversation. We talked about each other's families. I got to meet his wife, which was nice. He mainly just said he really wants me to come in there and compete, and have that level of competition that I've had all along. He kind of gave me some advice on what I should be doing to prepare for the season."

Overall, this latest trip solidified what Crist has known for quite some time…he can't wait to enroll in Notre Dame.

"I think the whole weekend I was able to see myself there more and more," he said. "I really felt at home throughout the entire trip. It was as if I was already going there. When they told us it was time to go it seemed strange because you felt a part of the place already. We had a great time. I'm just really excited for when I get to be there for good." Top Stories
