Thomas likes visit to Notre Dame

PA prospect Travis Thomas visited Notre Dame last weekend for the Boston College game. Thomas has had Notre Dame at the top of his list for quite some time. I spoke to Travis about his visit and his future plans.

Travis Thomas enjoyed his visit to Notre Dame. "It went good, I liked everything about it. I enjoyed the game, coaches atmosphere and the players. My host was Vontez Duff. He is such a great guy and he showed me around and we had a great time."

Travis went to Notre Dame last weekend coming off a loss that ended his senior season. "I wasn't happy about that so I can understand how the Notre Dame players were feeling after the game."

I asked Travis what he talked to Coach Willingham about. "He told me what he expects out of each of his players. He told me that they already had two commitments from running backs but they were not deep enough at running back. He said he would never promise anything other than a chance to play and a chance to get the degree of my choice. He was very open and honest with me which I like."

Travis grew up a Notre Dame fan so I asked him how things were setting right now. It appeared to me that Notre Dame and Iowa are his two favorites. "Yeah, I suppose but I really like Purdue and I will see what I think of Boston College as well. I go to Iowa and then I have my visit to Boston College on December 6th. I plan to make my decision sometime in late December or early January."

I also asked Travis about the numbers at running back and if that concerned him. "No, not at all. There is going to be competition no matter where I go. I just have to come in and compete and hopefully I will play. The numbers don't affect me much."

Travis also knows that is important to him when he makes his final decision. "I am just looking for opportunity. I would like to play early and the academic opportunity is important. I want to major in business and all the schools I am looking at have good business schools. I also want to feel comfortable with the coaches, the players and the environment."

Thomas also took him Mom with him on his visit. "She was in heaven there. She loved the place. We both liked it a lot."

Comments. I still think this is a two horse race between Notre Dame and Iowa. Travis likes Coach Ferentz quite a bit and Iowa is very much in this race. It will be interesting to see his reaction after his Iowa visit.
