Bullard Returns to ND

Meet and talk with head football coach Charlie Weis. Impressive, but Alex Bullard has already been there and done that.

On the four-star offensive lineman's second visit to Notre Dame, the Brentwood, Tenn. product got a chance to meet and shake hands with a few more campus big wigs.

"One of the coolest things for me was meeting some of the heavy hitters, not just coach Weis," Alex Bullard said. He was on Notre Dame's campus this past Thursday and Friday, getting a more in-depth look at a place he saw for the first time during the Irish spring game in late April.

"I was able to meet the athletic director and the president of the university. And I got to meet the head of the engineering department which was good, because that is what I'm looking into doing."

Before arriving in South Bend, Bullard and his father traveled up to Ann Arbor to see Michigan. When he got to Notre Dame, he was shown the campus by offensive coordinator Mike Haywood, and offensive line coach John Latina.

"They treated me right and showed me a good time," Bullard said.

One thing Bullard really wanted to do on this trip, was see the Notre Dame weight room and meet with strength and conditioning coach Rueben Mendoza.

"I got a chance to meet him," the 6-foot-4, 275-pound Bullard said. The Irish are recruiting him as a guard. "He was talking to me about little things to do. The good thing about him is he was a lineman, so he knows what to do for linemen and what to do to get you strong, so it will carry over to the field as a lineman."

Notre Dame verbal commit Tyler Stockton recently hit Bullard up on the phone.

"He is a cool guy," Bullard stated. "Me and him are friends. I told him hopefully I get selected to play in the All-American game so we can play against each other. He doesn't force it on me, but he tells me Notre Dame is a good place, and it will be a good fit for me."

Perhaps in the future, but Bullard said he didn't get the itch to commit to Notre Dame this weekend.

"I just feel like it's a place I really liked," he said. "It's one of the schools I'm going to look at and keep in my line.

"I was there longer this time, and I got to see a lot of things. There is nothing left I can possibly see. I know everything and I have all the information I need on Notre Dame.

"I have all the information I need on all the schools. Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame, I have all the information on all the schools looking at me and the ones I can see myself going to. I'm going to look at it for awhile and come up with a decision. I'm not sure when that is going to be.

"Maybe by the end of the summer."

Bullard, who is up to around 20 offers, also had a good time at Michigan.

"Same thing. I was able to meet all the coaches and finally get a chance to meet (head) coach (Rich) Rodriguez, and I had fun down there too."

And of course, there was that sit down visit with Weis.

"We were just talking in general about things," Bullard said. "I asked him how his trip was in the Middle East, and he was telling me about that and the spirit in Iraq and how that motivated him. We talked about little things, talked some ball and everything."
