Schofield Speaks About Irish Visit

Orland Park, Ill. offensive tackle Michael Schofield has a busy scheduled lined up over the next few weeks with visits scheduled for Purdue, Iowa, Michigan and Notre Dame. The 6-6, 270-pound tackle prospect visited Notre Dame today, and we caught up with Schofield to get his reaction to his latest visit to South Bend.

"I thought it went really well," said Michael Schofield about his visit to Notre Dame today.

"I got there at 9:30 and I didn't leave until 5:00, so it's been a long day," Schofield added. "I thought it went really well. I got to see a lot."

The Carl Sandburg high school star kicked off the day meeting with a number of Irish coaches. "I started off speaking with coach Ianello," he explained. "We just kind of sat and talked about Notre Dame, and then I met with coach Latina for quite awhile. He was just showing me their offense. He was showing me some of their blocking schemes and pass blocking techniques. I really liked him. We then got to spend about an hour with coach Weis, that was pretty cool. He was a real great guy. My dad really liked him as well."

Schofield then got a tour of campus.

"They kind of took me on a tour," he said. "I saw (the "Gug"), that was pretty cool, and then I got to see a lot of the academic stuff.

"I met with some academic people and that was real good. I was real impressed."

Overall Schofield was impressed with his visit to Notre Dame.

"I didn't get to meet any of the players," he said. "I think there were only four players total on campus, but I did get to eat lunch with the coaches. I just really liked all the coaches I met there. They were all really nice guys."

Did the visit improve Notre Dame's chances of signing the Orland Park, Ill. native?

"They definitely improved their chances," he said. "I'm going to take a few more visits. I'm going to see Iowa, Purdue and Michigan over the next few weeks and then I'm going to narrow things down a bit. Notre Dame definitely impressed me though."
