Walls Will Not Play; Hord to Transfer

The University of Notre Dame announced today that cornerback Darrin Walls will not be enrolled in school during the fall semester and that wide receiver D.J. Hord has decided to transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision school.

A statement released by the university said that Darrin Walls "will not be enrolled at Notre Dame during the fall semester for personal reasons and will return home at the end of this summer school term."

Charlie Weis added, "We won't have Darrin with us this season but I hope to have him return for the spring semester. Fortunately, cornerback is a position of strength on our team and this will provide opportunities for increased playing time for our corners."

Sophomore cornerback Gary Gray, who sat out last year with a broken arm, was listed behind Walls on the pre-spring depth chart. Junior Raeshon McNeil was listed as the backup to senior Terrail Lambert at the other cornerback spot.

D.J. Hord came to Notre Dame with high expectations, but injuries got his career off to a slow start and he finished with just two catches for seven yards in his career.

Hord was listed behind Duval Kamara and George West on the pre-spring depth chart at X. Hord will have two years of eligibilty remaining and will not have to sit out a year since he is transferring down to FCS.

"I'd like to thank D.J. for all he has given to this team in his three years and wish him well in his future endeavors," a statement from Weis said.
