Updates on visitors this weekend

I thought I would just put these short updates into one story. I spoke with David Marrero, Chase Anastasio, Isaiah Gardner, Ashley McConnell and Chinedum Ndukwe about their visits to Notre Dame this weekend. For McConnell and Gardner, this will be their first visit ever to Notre Dame.

Actually, I lied, I spoke to David Marrero's Dad, Manny Marrero. David and Manny had planned to attend the banquent even though David has already officially visited Notre Dame. "We won't be able to make it. I have to go out of town for business so we can't make it."

David's season has ended with a loss in the playoffs. "David was ready to go last week but they didn't use him much. He was in as a decoy mostly and back for returns but they squibbed the ball so he didn't get a chance to touch the ball much. I think they just wanted to protect him so he wouldn't get injured. It has been a frustrating year for David but he is healthy and will move on to indoor track now. We have coach Preston coming on Sunday to meet with us. That will be nice to see him." David was hurt for much of the season but Manny says he is 100% now. I will try to keep up on David's indoor track season as well.

I also spoke with Ashley McConnell. I can't wait until people start to interview Ashley in South Bend. He is always good for a laugh and has a great personality. "Yeah, I am ready, I can't wait to get there. My Mom will be going with me. I just want to see it. I have been waiting a long time for this and it's finally here. I am excited to meet some of the guys that have committed and some of the guys who haven't yet. I keep reading about all these guys on your site and I am excited to meet them. You need to do more free stories."

I asked Ashley if any of the coaches are coming to see him. "Yeah, I have Coach Miles coming by the school tomorrow. I am not sure if he is coming by the house or not. I am excited to hear what he has to say about recruiting. My Mom is very excited to go to Notre Dame. I think she might be more excited than I am. She really likes talking to Coach Willingham. I never get to talk to him because she is always on the phone with him." I am really pulling for Ashley to do well at Notre Dame. I don't think he has ever been in a bad mood in his life.

I also spoke with Chase Anastasio's Dad Mike for a little bit to confirm that he is visiting this weekend. "Yeah, we will be there on Friday. Chase is excited about it, we all are. Coach Diedrick is coming on Wednsday so call back after then and you can talk to Chase." I think Notre Dame looks very good for Chase.

I also spoke with Isaiah Gardner about his visit to Notre Dame this weekend. "I am very excited about it. I am excited to actually be there and see Notre Dame. My Mom is going with me and she is so excited. I want to meet the rest of the coaches and the players. I think I will really like it there."

Isaiah had Coach Diedrick come by the other day. "That was nice, he and I just sat down and talked about everything. He told me that they were only going to take two corners. They think I have a good chance to play next year. They really liked my tape from this year playing corner. Coach said they get in fights over me. Coach Walters gets mad at Coach Diedrick when they start talking about giving me a look on offense. He doesn't want any part of that. That was good to hear and I want to play corner."

I asked Isaiah if he has kept his options open in case he doesn't like Notre Dame. "Oh no, I am going to Notre Dame. I don't talk to any other coaches and I won't visit anywhere else. I am going to Notre Dame." I hope he turns into the best corner they have. He is a great kid and obviously an unselfish player.

I also got the chance to speak to Chinedum Ndukwe. First, I am excited to do a final story on Chinedum because he is great guy and they have such a nice family. It's really neat to find out how close their family is. I bet their dog is smarter than I am. That story will come after recruiting.

The Duke is excited about his visit. "I am looking forward to it. I am going with my parents. They have been there many times but they want to go any time they can." I asked if his brother (ND Alum) was going as well. "No, he is in South Carolina at a nuclear engineering school. He was in R.O.T.C. at Notre Dame so they are sending him to a bunch of schools. I don't think he will be in South Carolina for long but he loves the weather there."

I asked Nedu if he was going to do some selling while he was there. "I might do a little bit, sure." Nedu then asked who was going to be there and who to do some selling on. "I have been chatting with Jeff Samardzija so it will be good to see him. I am excited to meet all the guys."

The Duke said Coach Diedrick will be by on Thursday. "He is coming on Thursday. I think he will stop by here first and then he will go to Brady's house. I look forward to talking to him. I am ready to go now. I wish I could be at Notre Dame now." Let's hope the Duke can do some selling this weekend on the kids that haven't committed yet.
