Jones Picked Up Something Big In South Bend

Tai-ler Jones will go through the rest of Notre Dame's junior day on Saturday with a big smile.

The four-star, top-100 player and receiver from Gainsville, Ga., wasn't even on campus for an hour, before Irish head coach Charlie Weis handed over a written scholarship offer.

"Charlie Weis gave the offer to T.J.," Andre Jones, Tai-ler Jones' father said in a text message.

This past season, the 6-foot, 175-pound Jones caught 81 passes for 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns. He now has around 15 scholarship offers. Besides Notre Dame, places like Ohio State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Miami, Ole' Miss, Arkansas and Wake Forest have stepped to the table with an offer for the speedy playmaker.

This is Jones' second time ever on Notre Dame's campus. He visited for the Michigan game earlier this fall, when his father and the rest of his 1988 Irish teammates were honored for winning the National Championship 10 years ago. Jones played defensive end with the Irish from 1987-90.

Jones will attend Ohio State's junior day tomorrow before heading home.

Stay tuned, as Irish Eyes will catch up with Jones following all the Notre Dame junior day festivities. Top Stories
