Notre Dame Bounces Back

The Irish rebounded from a Friday night loss to Gonzaga with a 14-5 win over Dayton on Saturday. The win moves Notre Dame to 3-2 on the season and the Irish will wrap up their trip to Phoenix on Sunday.

Notre Dame's offense exploded for 14 runs and 17 hits as the Irish beat Dayton 14-5 on Saturday night in the Phoenix Classic at Diablo Stadium in Tempe.

The loss dropped the Flyers to 2-3.

Jeremy Barnes led Notre Dame (3-2) with three hits, three RBI and a pair of runs. Barnes finished a home run shy of the sweater. A.J. Pollock had three hits, three runs and a pair of RBI while Greg Sherry had three hits, three runs and an RBI.

Ryne Intlekofer, Brayden Ashdown and Casey Martin each drove in two RBI each for the Irish.

Starter Brian Dupra (1-1) allowed five earned runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings, but the Notre Dame offense allowed him to earn the victory. The Irish bullpen turned in another strong performance as David Mills, Will Hudgins and Sam Elam combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Notre Dame took a 5-1 lead into the fourth before blowing it open with a seven-run frame that included two-run doubles from Intlekofer and Barnes.

Notre Dame wraps up its trip to Arizona on Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. contest with Creighton at Phoenix College.
