Coleman Snags Irish Offer

When watching Brandon Coleman's film last week, Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis thought of Maurice Stovall.

He also thought about how he'd like to have Brandon Coleman on his team.

Last Friday, Weis offered the 6-foot-6, 200-pound receiver from Bishop McNamara High (Forestville, Md.) a scholarship.

"I had the conversation with coach Weis and it went well, and he did offer a full ride," Coleman said. "It was a cool moment! He said he watched my film and was impressed.

"He talked about how he has seen a lot of receivers, and said that you don't always come across people like me, who can move like you can and make plays happen. He talked about how I reminded him of a receiver that graduated from Notre Dame a few years ago (Stovall), who now plays in the NFL for the (Tampa Bay) Buccaneers.

"He said I could make a big difference in his program!

"He talked to me about getting a degree as well. He said he heard a lot about my character and leadership capabilities, and how I have what they are looking for in a student-athlete."

Coleman also holds offers from Maryland, Boston College, Rutgers, Connecticut and Temple. Several other programs like Virginia and Virginia Tech are showing high interest.

This past season, Coleman caught 35 passes for 550 yards and eight touchdowns.

He has not visited Notre Dame before, but is looking to make his first trip this coming spring or summer. Coleman has no timetable set for when he'd like to make a verbal commitment. Top Stories
