Rotheram Set To Return To Notre Dame

It's been awhile since the Notre Dame coaching staff has gotten a look at Matt Rotheram. Sounds like this coming weekend, the 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle from North Olmsted (Ohio) High will be put to the eye-ball test.

Matt Rotheram is up to 17 scholarship offers from the likes of Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. On Saturday, he hopes to add another one from Notre Dame when he's in town for the Blue-Gold game.

"I've been hearing a lot from them recently," Rotheram said. "They said they really want to see me on campus and see what I look like now. I got an email from coach (Brian) Polian (Monday) morning saying the staff is really looking forward to seeing me on campus this weekend."

After his first visit to Notre Dame this past fall for the Pittsburgh game, Rotheram can't wait to get back.

"The campus is great, the atmosphere is amazing, the stadium is great, it was a great visit," Rotheram exclaimed.

"I really liked my visit at the end of the fall, and Notre Dame has really good academics, and I like the coaches I've met so far, and I think it would be a great place to play football."

Rotheram claims no favorites, but says some schools are beginning to standout.

"I just visited Michigan for the spring game this past weekend, and I really liked them so they'll definitely be in my top five," Rotheram explained. "Notre Dame, Ohio State is up there, and Penn State has really stood out to me, but I haven't eliminated anyone yet."

Rotheram thinks the Wolverines, Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are also all close to offering. Like the Irish, he remains in regular contact with each coaching staff.

This past season, North Olmstead finished 4-6, but Rotheram still showed plenty of potential.

"Some schools told me they like that I'm really aggressive on the field," Rotheram said. "I play to the whistle on every play. I'm pretty athletic for a big guy, great run blocking."

Besides Notre Dame and Michigan, Rotheram has taken visits to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Michigan and Illinois. He is going to Indiana on Friday, and has future trips set up with Penn State and Ohio State.

A college decision likely won't come until after Rotheram's senior season.

"Just great academics, a great coaching staff, a combination of a few things involving the football program, like the facilities, what is the stadium like, and what are the fans like," Rotheram explained of what he's looking for in a school.

This Saturday, he's looking to get more in-depth with Notre Dame.

"Get a better knowledge of the academics of the school, meet some more coaches and get a tour of the campus and a final look at everything."
