Rotheram Returns To Notre Dame

When Matt Rotheram was on Notre Dame's campus this past Saturday for the Irish spring game, the coaching staff reiterated that the standout offensive tackle was still a prospect on their recruiting board.

"We didn't really talk about offering," Matt Rotheram said. "I'm not sure what's going on with that. They just said they like my film and they're interested, and they're going to be at my school and continue to recruit me.

"Coach (Brian) Polian said he didn't realize how big I was until he saw me in person."

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound North Olmsted (Ohio) High standout says he has 17 scholarship offers from the likes of Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

Rotheram visited Indiana on Friday, and drove up to South Bend that night. He was up early to enjoy all of the Blue-Gold game festivities.

"It was fun, I liked it, it was a good trip," Rotheram said. He visited Notre Dame for the first time this past fall for the Pittsburgh game.

One of the highlights of the trip, was before the game, listening to former players Bryant Young, Kinnon Tatum, Ron Powlus and Chris Zorich talk about their experiences at Notre Dame.

"I wasn't considering a lot of things about Notre Dame that they thought was pretty important, and it was pretty cool to hear what they had to say.

"They were talking about how Notre Dame, it's not just the football team you come there for, it's your degree and what you're going to do after college. You're only going to be there for four years, it's only a small portion of your life. It's about where you can take yourself you afterwards. They talked about the Notre Dame fans and alumni that are all over the country, saying this a great university."

The spring game atmosphere was eye opening.

"It was amazing," Rotheram said. "There was like 35,000 people for a spring game. It was incredible."

While on campus, Rotheram also got some one-on-one time with offensive line coach Frank Verducci.

"He was saying the same things, that he saw my film and liked it. That I'm aggressive and I'm a big guy, and they're excited about me and going to continue to recruit me." Top Stories
