Most college prospects don't get a chance to visit their prospective schools until later in the summer or even into the fall. That isn't the case for Bennett Jackson (6-foot-1,170-pounds), as he's seen nearly every school that is under consideration.
"The schools that I've visited so far are Boston College, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Northwestern, Michigan State, and Notre Dame," Jackson responded when reached by phone Wednesday night. "I'm actually just getting back from Notre Dame. It all went pretty good. I saw the campus and everything. The campus was nice. Finals had just ended so there weren't a lot of people on campus. The campus itself was real nice. The buildings there are extremely nice, it's a lot nicer than I expected. There wasn't anything that I didn't like everything was a bonus.
"They took me through all the academic places, their indoor facilities, outdoor facilities and I had lunch with a bunch of players. Then I sat down and talked with coach Weis about football and my position. He told me how I fit in the program at receiver, punter returner and kick returner. He thinks that I could fairly early as a returner. He said there was a need for an inside slot receiver. We talked about being from New Jersey and stuff like that. Coach Ianello was out recruiting so I didn't get to meet him, but I talked to my recruiting coach, coach Verducci.
"My coach is actually good friends with coach Verducci," Jackson explained. "My coach gave him my tape and after that, we started talking a lot more, and got a stronger connection with coach Verducci. I believe they were my fourth offer and it was one of my better offers at the time…obviously. From there I kind of went with it. I scheduled my visit and kind of thought about Notre Dame more seriously.
"If I had to rate my trip, for an unofficial visit, it would be a nine or a ten," Jackson said. "I gained a lot of information and I like it a lot more. Notre Dame was always high on my list, but the trip definitely helped out. They moved up to one of the higher spots on my list.
Despite the numerous unofficial visits Bennett has already taken, he isn't done.
"I'll probably make a trip to West Virginia and Maryland pretty soon," he explained. "I'll probably make my decision when I know what's going on. I kind of want to make a decision because I don't want to get confused (with the recruiting process). I think the schools that are going to offer me have offered, or are going to soon. Those are all the schools I need, I don't need a thousand offers, that's why I didn't send my tape out to very many schools. I'll probably make my decision pretty soon."
