Shirley Gets Offer From ND

Josh Shirley of Kaiser High School (Fontana, Calif.) is a big-time player, with bog-time offers. His latest came from Notre Dame last week.

Josh Shirley (6-foot-3, 220-pounds) recently competed at the Los Angeles combine, where he was one of the more impressive prospects on hand.

"I didn't do any of the drills, but I did one-on-ones," Shirley said of his effort on Saturday. "I think I did good. I switched back and forth between linebacker and the lineman. There were some real good running backs and I saw some good quarterbacks."

Notre Dame saw enough of Shirley to extend a scholarship offer last week.

"It's going good (with Notre Dame)," Josh said. "They called me the other day because they saw me film. They like me at defensive end or linebacker, same as everyone else. Coach Polian is recruiting me, but I haven't talked with any other coaches yet. They gave me an offer the other day. Coach Polian called and said that they watched my film and they loved it."

Cal, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Stanford, Fresno State, San Diego State, Arizona, Washington, Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska, UTEP, Washington State and Colorado have also offered Shirley.

"The ones that stick out are USC, UCLA, Tennessee, Oregon and Notre Dame," Shirley said. "There are a lot of them though that I haven't gotten to look at. I'm going to wait to make my decision. I'm going to give everyone a solid look.

"I'll take all of my visits, but I'm not sure where I'll take them yet. I'll decide on that in fall or late fall." Top Stories
