Notre Dame has room for a couple safeties in the 2010 recruiting class and Sean Parker (5-foot-10, 175-pounds) is one of their top targets.
"We're continuing to talk to each other," Parker responded when asked about his contact with the Irish coaching staff. "I'm calling them every week. Coach Polian and I had a real good talk. I just like the good vibe that we're getting. They've always got good things to say and they're a program on the rise.
"It was a surprise when they offered me. It was a shock. They told me that I have an opportunity to go in there and play and that I'd be a real good fit for them. Academically they're very strong, and the opportunities you have after football are awesome too.
Everyone in the PAC-10 has tender Parker an offer. He also has offers from Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.
"I'd say Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama and Florida are recruiting me the hardest," Parker explained. "I'm just keeping my options open, I'm looking at everyone the same way. I'm continuing to do my research. Distance isn't an issue at all. I just have to do my research and take my official visits to see what's out there. If I like it, I'll choose the school.
"It's all going to come down to signing day when I make my decision. It's too early right now. I'm just going to do my research. I'll probably do some of my official visits during my season, and then take some after my season.
College coaches love Parker's hitting ability and natural instincts. Those qualities also rub off onto his teammates.
"I bring intensity, attitude and desire to the field. That spreads to the other guys on my team so that they can keep their intensity high and we'll be on the same page. I'm real vocal out on the field so that everybody knows that I'm there.
Last season Parker registered 68 tackles, 5 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks.
