Kacy Rodgers (6-foot-2, 183-pounds) is a player that has seen his stock go through the roof. Notre Dame offered the standout defensive back in April, so Kacy made an unofficial visit to see Notre Dame on Wednesday.
"The offer came from the middle of nowhere," Rodgers replied when asked about his recruitment. "I got in contact with coach Alford. He seemed to really like me a lot, I guess they had gotten a hold of my tape, and then they spoke with my coaches, and my coach told me that Notre Dame had offered me.
"I was excited about the offer. They're a powerhouse; they have a rich tradition academically and athletically. I've seen Notre Dame play on TV all the time, but I really didn't follow them growing up. I always knew that Notre Dame was going to be playing on TV and when I became recruited a little bit more, it started coming into my mind that I could potentially play there.
While visiting his aunt and uncle in Chicago, Rodgers decided to take a visit to South Bend.
"We have family in Chicago," Rodgers said. "Once you get up there, Notre Dame is only about an hour and a half, so we figured that we'd make the drive to see the campus. Once we got there, I thought it was a lot nicer than I had expected it to be. I knew it was going to be a nice campus, but it was a lot bigger, a lot prettier and it had a lot more things than I thought it would have. We walked through the locker room and the stadium. They showed us everything there. It was just really nice.
"Me and my mom got a chance to sit down with coach Weis for about 30 minutes. Coach Weis is awesome. I think he's a really genuine guy. He was telling me what a great opportunity it is to play for Notre Dame. He told me about all the alumni and that once you graduate how unbelievable they are. I know a degree from Notre Dame would go far, but coach Weis just reiterated it."
Rodgers will visit Duke, Georgia and Ohio State in the coming weeks, and he hopes to have a decision shortly after that.
"I don't think I have any top schools or anything," He explained. "But I think I may try to make a decision in July. That could always change, but that's where I am now. I just want to go ahead and get it over with, so I can just focus on my senior season."
