C.J. Olaniyan Has Big-Time Appeal

Notre Dame is taking interest in C.J. Olaniyan from Warren Mott High School, (Warren, Mich.) The Irish will need to make a move soon, because the standout defensive end already has a number of offers from big-time programs.

C.J. Olaniyan (6-foot-5, 230-pounds) has interest in Notre Dame, but he's waiting for the Irish to extend him a written scholarship offer.

"Notre Dame gave me a verbal offer," Olaniyan responded when asked about his recruitment. "I think they called my coach about three or four weeks ago. A couple days after they got in touch with my coach, they came to my school and watched me work out. After that I spoke with coach Brown on the phone a couple times.

"He sounded like a good guy. He told me everything straight up. He said that he likes the way that I get to the ball, he liked my explosiveness and how I play every down. Most schools are recruiting me to play defensive end, although some schools are looking at me at tight end… mostly defensive end though.

"I'm very interested in them," he said. "I don't know much about them academically, but I always see them play on TV, and I think they have good players that always play hard. I've always like Notre Dame, they've always been an independent, so they get to play a different type of talent every week."

Although you'd expect a top prep player from Michigan to favor the Spartans or the Wolverines, Olaniyan's roots are from the South.

"I spent most of my time growing up in Georgia, we just moved up to Michigan five years ago," Olaniyan explained. "I grew up a USC fan, but I don't really have a dream offer, I look at every school. I'm basing everything on what I'm looking for in a school and for my needs.

"Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Miami, Oregon, UCLA, Penn State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Purdue, Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois. I have some others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head."
