New leader for Amerson

David Amerson took his official visit to Notre Dame a couple weeks ago for the Michigan State game, and he was impressed with what the Irish program had to offer. The standout safety from Dudley HS High School (Greensboro, N.C.) enjoyed the visit so much, he left South Bend with a new leader.

N.C. State had been the leader for's No 56 rated safety, David Amerson (6-foot-1, 182-pounds), but after watching the Irish pull out a late victory, and getting a chance to meet with the Notre Dame coaching staff, Amerson now has the Irish out front.

"Notre Dame is probably in the lead right now," Amerson said. "I told the coaches I liked everything about Notre Dame, but before I pull the trigger I want to be 100 percent sure about everything and have no doubts in my mind.

"I got to sit and watch film with coach Brown and he showed me some stuff and I learned more about him. I liked meeting and talking to coach Weis too. I liked going to the game and being around the atmosphere. Overall, the football atmosphere of Notre Dame, I loved that. It was a good visit; hanging around some of the players that night, they were all cool. They were funny and down to earth guys, everything was cool in that area. I had a good visit...period."

Amerson had to scrap a couple unofficial visits he had planned to Notre Dame earlier in the year, but after getting a chance to see the campus, he certainly felt comfortable.

"I definitely can say I can see myself going to school there after visiting," Amerson said." I enjoyed it. I was amazed and surprised. I didn't think it would be that nice. I didn't expect it to be that crazy. I loved it all around. It made a big impression on me, and opened my eyes a lot to Notre Dame."

"I've been watching them on TV. I'm definitely rooting for them. I like watching Golden Tate, he's an exciting player. I like watching the defense too."

Amerson still has one visit scheduled next month, but that appears to up in the air at this point, because David may make an announcement in the near future.

"I have one planned for November 19, for North Carolina," David explained. "I don't know for sure if I'll take that one or move that up to an earlier date. I don't know what I'll do about that yet. It's probably my last visit. To be honest, it's just between Notre Dame and N.C. State.

"(A decision) could be coming soon. If I'm 100 percent sure then I'll probably make that decision sometime soon." Top Stories
