Prater might join the crowd

Kyle Prater committed to USC at the beginning of September, and he named Notre Dame as one of his finalists. Despite his commitment, Scout.com's No. 2 rated wide receiver from Proviso West High School (Hillside, Ill.) might make an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this weekend to watch the Irish play the Trojans.

Although Notre Dame fans would like to get Kyle Prater (6-foot-5, 205-pounds) on campus again to see if the excitement of the gameday atmosphere could sway him, it's doubtful that Prater would reconsider his commitment to the Trojans.

"I'm going to try to see if I can get out there to see that game for an unofficial visit," Prater said. "I'm just going out to check out the game and evaluate it a bit. I'll see how everything looks after our game Friday night.

"Right now my official visit to USC is October 24, when they play Oregon State."

If Prater's production at Proviso West is any indication of what Notre Dame will face the next four years, the Irish will need to load up on quality defensive backs.

"The team's doing well, we're 5-2," Prater said. "I played quarterback for one game, but now I'm just playing wide receiver. I have 40 catches for over 800 yards and eight touchdowns right now."
