Irish on the move with Jones

Linebacker Christian Jones from Lake Howell High School(Winter Park, Fla.) made his first official visit to watch Notre Dame take on Boston College last weekend. Although the weather wasn't ideal for hosting a recruit from Florida, the Irish made a strong impression on Jones.

Although Christian Jones (6-foot-4, 215-pounds) has been considering Notre Dame, the Irish certainly weren't one of the schools he called out when he listed his top schools under consideration. But after his recent official visit to South Bend, the Irish are on the move.

"Just about everything; the environment, the buildings and everything was real different from other schools," Jones responded when asked what impressed him about his visit to Notre Dame. "The visit definitely surprised me. They definitely moved up for me. It's definitely a unique place.

"Getting to be around the players, they all seemed pretty cool. They seem like the guys I hang out with down at my school and I could see myself being around those guys. I enjoyed being around there. I could see myself playing for them.

"My dad really loved it. He thinks it's the perfect fit for me," he added.

It was a cool October day, with the temperature topping out in the low 40's, but weather didn't seemed to bother Jones.

"The way I see it is, if you want to play in the NFL, you have to get used to the cold, so it's not a problem," Jones explained. "I talked to Ian Williams; he's from my area. I talked to him for a little. He told me he loved it. He said it's a great experience and he's glad he picked that school.

Notre Dame is recruiting him as an outside linebacker that is able also able to rush the passer from the defensive end position. Jones doesn't isn't concerned about which position he plays in college, as long as he gets on the field.

"It doesn't matter to me," Jones said. "I spoke with coach Alford, coach Brown and coach Tenuta. We talked about how good a degree was from there and their style of play. I talked to coach Weis. He seemed like a laid back guy. I liked my talk with him.

"I know they play a lot of pro-style stuff, so that's pretty good. It'll get you ready for the NFL."

Jones visits Tennessee this weekend and a visit to USC when they play UCLA (November 28). Jones has not decided on his final two visits, but those will likely come in January. Christian will likely announce his college choice on signing day. Top Stories
