James Likes ND Hire

Notre Dame and Cincinnati don't recruit a lot of the same high school prospects, but one player they do have mutual interest in is Matt James from St. Xavier High School (Cincinnati, Ohio). The standout offensive tackle hasn't taken an official visit to either school, but that will likely happen in January.

When Notre Dame hired Brian Kelly from the University of Cincinnati, many figured offensive tackle Matt James (6-foot-7, 260-pounds) would likely follow him to South Bend. While the Irish have likely improved their chances with James, it isn't a slam dunk like many think.

"I think he's a great coach," James responded when asked about Brian Kelly. "Just look at his record. Wherever he goes he wins, so he's a great coach. When he was at Cincinnati he was a pretty fiery coach. He's pretty intense at time… but he wins.

"I'm going to try to get up there and visit them. I've been looking at my calendar, but I'm not sure what will work out. Before I had conflicts with football, but now we're just trying to work it out. I talked to coach Kelly a couple days ago.

James is also keeping a close eye on the Cincinnati coaching situation. If UC hires Brian Kelly's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, Jeff Quinn, the Bearcats would still have a very strong chance at landing James.

"I'll wait and see who they hire, because they don't have a head coach yet," James explained. "They just have an interim coach, so I'll wait until they hire a coach. (Hiring Quinn) would help them."

James was scheduled to visit Florida this weekend, but he has opted to push it back into January. Matt did have a chance to take his official visit to Ohio State last weekend.

"It was a good time," James said. "I got know some players better and some of the recruits that are committed there."
