Lueders: "I'm Excited"

While at Cincinnati, Brian Kelly wanted to recruit Blake Lueders, but the defensive end from Zionsville Community High School (Ind.) didn't have much interest in the Bearcat program. Now that Brian Kelly is at Notre Dame, he'll get his chance to coach Lueders after all.

Brian Kelly wanted Blake Lueders (6-foot-5, 250-pounds) to be a part of his program when he was the head coach at Cincinnati. Now that Kelly is in South Bend, Lueders found out that nothing has changed.

"I'm excited," Lueders responded when asked about Brian Kelly. "I think he's a great guy. He's got a great won-loss record. He seems like the right guy for the job.

"I talked to him a little bit on the phone a little bit ago. The conversation was brief. He just wanted to introduce himself. He was busy which made sense. He reiterated that I was still the type of guy that Notre Dame wants, and the type of guy that he wants on his team."

Although Blake has had a chance to speak with Kelly, he's anxious to meet his future head coach in person. While most recruits will wait for their in-home visit, Lueders is planning to take a trip to South Bend.

"He hasn't named his staff yet," Blake explained. "I want to meet him and I'd like to meet his staff. I still have a lot of questions that I want to get answered, so I'm going up there this Saturday for an unofficial visit." Top Stories
