Relationships Are Key To Barr

Anthony Barr has had Notre Dame at the top of his list for awhile now, and despite the coaching change in South Bend, the Irish are holding strong. Right now the standout athlete from Loyola High School (Los Angeles, Calif.) just wants to see who Kelly names to his staff.

Anthony Barr (6-foot-4, 225-pounds) had built several strong relationships with the former Notre Dame coaching staff, and he's anxious to get the ball rolling with Brian Kelly and his coaches.

"I'm just waiting to talk to coach Kelly and wait to see who stays from the old staff right now," Barr said. "It's important to me, because the relationships you've built over the past two years you can't replace overnight. I think which coaches they keep (from Weis' staff) will be pretty important.

"I had relationships with everybody, so it would be hard to see those guys let go. I just spoke with coach Alford. I spoke with him quite a bit when I was there in October, so it will be nice to know that he'll be around. He said to be patient with the process and give coach Kelly some time to get situated. It was a pretty casual conversation. He reminded me of the reasons of why they want me to come to Notre Dame."

Living on the West Coast, Barr didn't get to see Cincinnati play very often, so he doesn't know much about what Brian Kelly had accomplished. What Barr does know, he likes.

"I don't know anything about him really," Anthony explained. "I know he's been successful and that he's had good offenses in the past. Besides that, I don't really have any knowledge of him. Hopefully when we have a conversation I'll learn more about him and I'm looking forward to that."

Barr doesn't intend on making a decision until February, so Kelly will have some time to build that relationship. During that time, Anthony is also going take at least one more official visit.

"I'm going to take a visit to UCLA on January 15." Barr said. "I've been talking to their coaches pretty frequently and they're pretty cool. I've been talking to some other schools. They've called me up to see where I'm at. It's been fairly casual talk right now. I might check out a school or two before signing day just to see what's out there, but I'm still highest on UCLA and Notre Dame.

"There's still a possibility that another school could get in the picture. It's always good to have your options open. Especially when things happen like the Notre Dame situation happened. It's going to happen. It's part of the game. It's just good to keep those doors open in case something like that happens." Top Stories
