Boyd Is Ready To Go

Spencer Boyd from Cape Coral High School, (Fla.) was one of five recruits that reported to Notre Dame on Monday. Just before Boyd prepared to head to Notre Dame he received a visit from Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. IrishEyes spoke with Boyd just before he left for school.

There wasn't any way Spencer Boyd (5-foot-10, 175-pounds) was going to alter his plans to enroll early at Notre Dame. All the same, it was important for him to meet his future head coach before leaving for South Bend. Just prior to his departure, Brian Kelly paid Boyd a visit.

"I'm glad I finally got to meet him face to face," Boyd responded when asked about his in-home visit with Kelly. "It went great, but we didn't meet very long, because he was on the road and had to talk to some other people. It went good though.

"I‘m ready to go. He told me the next three or four months to get into the books and my school work."

The brevity of the meeting certainly didn't concern Boyd. Spencer is intent on getting to Notre Dame and getting down to business.

"No questions at all," Boyd said. "We talked about freshmen playing early. He actually brought that conversation up, so I think he believes in playing freshmen early, so I just can't wait to get up there.

"The first time I spoke with coach Kelly on the phone, he didn't realize I played so much running back, and he really liked my tape. He said that he liked me on the offensive side of the ball as well, but I don't think he's planning on switching my position. He didn't say anything about it this time.
