Wide Receiver Has Interest in ND

Hakeem Flowers is one of several prospects from the 2011 recruiting class that the Notre Dame staff offered on national signing day. The wide receiver from Wade Hampton High School (Greenville, S.C.) has over 35 scholarship offers from across the country and will soon be making a couple unofficial visits.

Brian Kelly wanted to make an impact when he offered Hakeem Flowers (6-foot-2, 175-pounds) a scholarship and his planned work.

"I called coach Elston and then he put me on the phone with coach Kelly," Flowers explained. "Then they said that they were going to offer me. (Coach Kelly) told me that he wanted to offer me on national signing day so that there would be a special place in my heart for them when it came to national signing day next year. I liked it.

"We only talked for about five minutes, because he had to be on the radio, so he pretty much just told me that he was going to offer me, but my interest level is high. I know they have really good alumni and fan base. I haven't been there, but I'm going to go there this summer or for a football game.

"From what I've heard, coach Kelly is a really good coach, but I really haven't been able to look much up on him," he said.

A lot of the nation's top recruits tend to take make their decisions later in the recruiting process, and Flowers will likely follow that pattern.

"I'm going to take all of my visits, so I'm probably going to wait until after my season to announce my decision," he said. "I'm probably going to Alabama, Texas and Oregon for junior days. I've already scheduled Oregon and Texas. I think Oregon is April 3 and Texas is February 24.

As a junior, Flowers nabbed 50 catches for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns, so there have been plenty of highlights to impress the college coaches.

"Coaches say they like my speed, quickness and how I'm able to go up over defensive backs and get the ball," Flowers said. "I feel like I can be the best out there and I just go out there and go hard."
