Croce Is Taking A Look At ND

Notre Dame would like to sign at least three defensive ends in the 2011 recruiting class, and they've already identified several prospects that they are going to target. Vincent Croce of Our Lady Good Counsel High School (Olney, Md.) is one of them and he has plans to visit Notre Dame in March.

Notre Dame assistant coach Kerry Cooks is already proving that he will be an asset when it comes to recruiting. Since coming to Notre Dame he has been able to continue several relationships that he had developed from his time at Wisconsin. Defensive end Vincent Croce (6-foot-4, 260-pounds) is one of those prospects and Croce looks like he has found himself on the Notre Dame recruiting board.

"Coach Cooks was recruiting me when he was at Wisconsin and stared recruiting me when he moved to Notre Dame," Croce explained. "I guess he suggested that they take a look at me. I don't have a written offer, but when I talked to them on signing day, coach Cooks said that they were busy with a lot of stuff, but he assured me that they had an offer for me.

"I actually just talked to coach Cooks. I had a great chat with him and he was just making sure that I was still coming up for the junior day and March 20… and I am."

With scholarship offers from the likes of Michigan, Maryland, West Virginia, Pitt, Duke, Rutgers, Virginia, Wisconsin and Iowa, Croce will have plenty of options when it comes to selecting where he plays at the next level.

"It's still really early, and I haven't gotten a chance to look at that many schools," he said. But I'd say that I'm a little more interested in Notre dame because of their reputation of the program and the high level that they play at.

"I know that it's a really good academic school, it's a private Catholic school, and I feel that it would be an easy adjustment coming from a Catholic high school. I'm just looking forward to seeing what the campus is like and what the academic support they have for their players, because it's such and demanding school academically."

Croce has already visited several programs, and he'd like to take a few more unofficial visits, but he also knows that he has to be selective and manage his time.

"Last spring I went to North Carolina and Maryland," Croce said. "This past January I went to Rutgers. I was supposed to go see Michigan on February 20, but I had a scheduling conflict. Right now I'm doing my homework on-line. I'm looking at how deep schools are at my position and I'm looking at the coaching staffs and stuff like that. I'm going to do my homework here before I have myself running all over the country.

"I don't have a time when I have to have a decision by. Whenever I know and whenever my family knows where I'm going to be happy for the next four years of my life, then that's when (I'll announce my decision). If that's at the beginning of the season, then I'll come out and commit and everyone will know it and I'll be set for my senior year, but if it's not until January, then that's just how long it's going to take."
