Zettel Working His Way Around

Interest for Anthony Zettel is beginning to pick up as the college coaches are working their way through the piles of prospect highlight reels. The lineman from Ogemaw Heights High School (West Branch, Mich.) has taken several unofficial visits to in-state schools, and is now looking to school beyond Michigan.

Anthony Zettel (6-foot-4, 265-pounds) has scholarship offers from Buffalo, Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Central Michigan, and Cincinnati. He has always had interest in Notre Dame, but he hadn't heard much from Notre Dame from the new Irish staff…that has changed.

"They started getting in touch about a month ago," Zettel said. "I don't know much about them, but I've been keeping in touch with coach Martin and I'll be going down to their junior day (March 20). They said they want to see me in person. They already know what I can bring to the field, they've heard everything, they just want to make sure I'm the right size for they want. They want to see me in person, see my attitude, and then they said that they're probably going to pop the offer at the junior day.

"An offer from Notre Dame would mean a lot. It would be another big out of state offer. They have a good education, and a good team. With the new coaching staff there, everyone says that they're the best of the best, so an offer would mean a lot to me.

"I want to see their facility, the campus, team chemistry, what type of players they have on the team, and the personalities of the coaching staff," he said. "I know they have a top education, like Michigan."

Zettel's trip to Notre Dame isn't his first and it won't be his last. He's already visited three schools, with more trips in the works.

"So far the only junior days that I've gone to are Central Michigan, Michigan State and Michigan," Anthony explained. "I'm going to get out to some out of state colleges as soon as I can. I'd like to get a feel for the schools and see what they're like.

"So far I'm more comfortable with Michigan just because I've been there so many times, because I'm closer, but I'm still open to everyone. If another college takes my eye off Michigan, I'm still open. Right now you could say that Michigan is my favorite, but I'm still open to anything."

Zettel not only has an open mind about looking into various schools, but he also has an open mind as to what position he'll play at the next level.

"I think I'd play offensive guard if I was going to go on offensive," he said. "On defense, I'm not sure where I'd play on the line. I know that my speed and quickness have been getting better every week. Right now I don't know what position I'd play period. Michigan State is recruiting me to play seven different spots. Michigan is recruiting me to play three different spots. A lot of colleges are recruiting me for both sides of the ball, because my body is filling out, but I'm becoming more athletic every day."
