Jordan Prestwood (6-foot-6, 265-pounds ) joins defensive end Brad Carrico as a member of Brian Kelly's first recruiting class. Prestwood had visited Notre Dame three times with the most recent visit coming a little over a week ago and today announced that he would join Kelly's program in 2011.
"It's Notre Dame," Prestwood confirmed with IrishEyes shortly after his announcement. "I've been up there three times just getting a feel for everything; getting a feel for the campus, meeting the players, the coaches and the people around there. It's a place that's pretty unique and you either fit in there or you don't. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that, so I committed.
"It's exciting. I wish I could be a part of it tomorrow. Now I can just play my senior year without worrying about which school I'm going to. I visited so many schools and nothing compared to Notre Dame. "
Two of the factors that played heavily into Prestwood's decision were the new coaching staff at Notre Dame and the Notre Dame students.
"Definitely the people there," Prestwood responded when asked what stood out about Notre Dame."I'm not saying that other schools don't have great people around, but Notre Dame has top-notch people that I want to surround myself with and I really wanted to be a part of it.
"The coaches are all really down to earth and really great. You can just sit there and have a conversation with them and joke around with them. The coaches just made me feel like I wanted to be a part of what they have going on with the football program.
"I got to hang out with the players and talk to them," he said. "I got to meet some of the students and everything just fit."
