Irish Eyes Take: Conor Hanratty

Irish Eyes looks at the newest verbal pledge to Brian Kelly's Class of 2011. The name Hanratty is one that lives in Irish lore, how does the son of former All-American quarterback Terry Hanratty breakdown?

With great physical size Conor Hanratty of New Canaan, Connecticut knows how to use his strength to win battles in high school. As a future member of Notre Dame, Hanratty will need to do some work but should be able to come in and battle early.

What To Like

Hanratty will enter Notre Dame knowing what to expect from being on campus. Great physical size will see Hanratty enter Notre Dame ready to battle and give depth. In high school Hanratty already plays in a spread offensive attack and looks strong in run blocking while being above average in pass pro. Hanratty looks very athletic for a big guy and will improve once he enters Paul Longo's weight program.

What May Concern You

The film watched by Irish Eyes was Hanratty not be tested by someone the quality he'll see when he gets on campus. He'll have to make the adjustment once on campus and should be able to without much problem. One thing seen on film is Hanratty getting too high and winning battles with his brute upper body strength. Once in college he'll be taught more to explode from the hips and to keep his base without getting too high.

Bottom Line

For many reasons this is a big get for Kelly and his staff. Legacy recruits who can play are always great additions to a program. Legacy recruits who are big strong offensive linemen just don't happen very often. Hanratty will fit in at Notre Dame and will be coached up and take his game to another level. Depending upon his actual height, Hanratty looks more like a guard at the college level. Top Stories
