Irish Eyes Take: Jarrett Grace

Irish Eyes looks at the newest verbal pledge to Brian Kelly's Class of 2011. As IrishEyes.com told its members last weekend, Jarrett Grace was on the verge of giving Brian Kelly his verbal pledge. We now look at Grace as a player.

Jarrett Grace is a prospect Brian Kelly and his staff have been working on the past couple of years. While they started working on Grace at Cincinnati, the move to Notre Dame proved to be too much for Grace to say no.

What To Like

In the 3-4 defensive schemes having a long frame athletic player is a must. Jarrett Grace is that player as he's got good physical size to line up as an edge rusher or drop back into coverage in midfield. Long and rangy, Grace has played at one of the top prep programs in the Midwest and excelled. There is no reason to feel he won't do the same at Notre Dame.

What May Concern You

In high school Grace plays in a lot of 5 man fronts and is in the middle of the action as a linebacker. In college he'll have to spend more time up on the line coming off the edge and will have to adjust his game to play against bigger offensive linemen. With work in a college weight room Grace should be able to make this adjustment.

Bottom Line

When Brian Kelly talks about RKG players he's talking about Jarrett Grace. On and off the field Kelly and his staff will know what to expect out of Grace. While he's still got work that needs to be done on the field, his best football looks to be ahead of him.
