West & Irish Don't Connect

Having planned a trip to Notre Dame a few weeks ago that didn't work out, offensive Zach West was looking forward to visiting with the Irish. How did the trip go? We get the latest.

Lexington (KY) Christian Academy high school offensive lineman Zach West was shown early interest by Notre Dame prior to Brian Kelly's arrival. Since that time West has been in contact with the Irish and was looking to make a trip up this past Friday to see where he stood with the Irish and learn more about the program.

That never happened.

"We started to make the drive up to Notre Dame and about halfway received an email from Coach Hinton," West said Sunday. "He informed us that Notre Dame was not going to be offering me a scholarship so we stopped and turned around."

While West had serious interest in the Irish, he also understands schools have to make a choice at some point and cannot recruit everyone.

"Right now I'm open as to where I go to college. I've been to Louisville a lot and Kentucky a lot and plan on taking a visit to Penn State this summer."

While the Irish and West didn't connect West knows his future is still headed towards playing college football.
