Irish Checking In On Ohio Lineman

With coaches on the road recruiting, several new names are starting to appear on the Irish recruiting list. We get the latest on one prospect from Ohio who received a visit from Notre Dame.

Chase Hounshell was going along and minding his own business picking up offers from a few Mid American programs, Vanderbilt and Central Florida. That all changed this week as the Big Ten and Notre Dame showed up with high interest for the 6-foot-5, 250-pound lineman.

"Indiana, Illinois and Michigan State all offered me on Tuesday. Notre Dame came and seen me today and told me they were going to offer me at their one day camp when I go."

Hounshell, while excited about the Irish interest knows only time will tell if he's to be given a scholarship.

"Coach (Ed) Warinner is the coach recruiting me and I'm planning on going to their one-day camp on June 29th."

While Hounshell is listed as a defensive end, he said the Irish are looking at him at a different position.

"Notre Dame is recruiting me as an offensive tackle."

When an offer comes from the Irish, Chase knows he might have to push up his timetable in making a commitment.

"My goal is to try and make a commitment prior to my senior year and to play my senior season without any worries on the college front. That is my plan, but I don't know if it's going to happen that way."

Whatever the outcome, Chase knows if he has a good showing the Irish could be a program he'd be ready to make a pledge to.

Scout.com will continue to follow Chase in the coming weeks to see if he makes the trip to South Bend.
