Kouandjio Taking His Time

Cyrus Kouandjio from DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, Md.) is Scout.com's No. 1 ranked offensive tackle in the country and he has a lengthy list of scholarship offers. Notre Dame is on that list and Cyrus says that he's planning to take a look at the Irish.

Cyrus Kouandjio (6-foot-6, 290-pounds) has a pretty good idea of how the recruiting process progresses. His older brother Arie just went through it last year and eventually signed with Alabama. Like his brother, Cyrus is going to take his time and look at as many schools as he can.

"I'm extremely open to every school," Kouandjio said. "I'm very open to the schools that are interested in me and I'm going to find the school that fits me best. I'm just starting the recruiting process.

"Coaches that are really consistent in getting in touch with me; the coaches from Georgia, New Mexico, Alabama, and a few others. They've been blasting my coaches phone at high school. They're really trying to reach me and I appreciate that, but I also have a lot of time.

"Right now my main focus is to get bigger, faster and better overall," he said. "I have a lot of work to do. I'm going to stay focused on getting better at this time. I really have a lot of time with my recruiting process.

"I've been visiting schools here and there. I've been to Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Iowa. I'm really just looking around to see what all these schools have to offer. I'm going to take some more visits and I'm really looking forward to visiting Notre Dame. I'm not sure when I'll get to go, it'll be up to timing. "

Because Kouandjio has been taking the recruiting process slowly, he really hasn't had a chance to get to know the new Notre Dame coaching staff. In the coming weeks he's hoping to start building that relationship.

"They've been sending me stuff and they've been on top of me, Cyrus explained. "I haven't made that connection with the Notre Dame coaches yet, but I'm going to make sure to get in contact with them."
