ND Stops In To See Brown

Notre Dame would like to improve its success in Texas and the recruitment of Jalen Brown represents a strong starting point. The cornerback from MacArthur High School (Irving, Texas) has an Irish offer in hand and is looking to schedule a visit to South Bend.

Notre Dame will need to bring in a couple top cornerbacks in the 2011 recruiting class and one of their top recruiting targets is Jalen Brown (6-foot-0, 170-pounds).

"I have a lot of contact with them," Brown said. "Coach Cooks came to my school today and watched me practice. I get a lot of mail from them and talk to coach Cooks quite a bit. I saw him watching practice and I got to speak with him a little bit. I haven't talked to coach Kelly yet though.

"They're looking at me as a cornerback. Coach Cooks told me that he likes my size and my speed. He said he likes my ability to break on the ball. He likes me as an athlete. He said that I have long arms and he said that he likes my footwork.

Despite the recent struggles the Irish have had on the field over the past couple years, Brown has faith that the new Notre Dame coaching staff will get everything turned around.

"The coaches seem pretty cool and I know the program is going to get back to where it was in the old days and start winning a lot of games," Brown said. "They've had a rough couple seasons, but I know they'll get back to Notre Dame football and to being great again.

"I think I know a good deal about the school. I know about all the championships that they've won, how good the football program is, I know about the new coaching staff… I like the tradition that they have.

"I don't think distance would be a problem because Notre Dame is such a prestigious school and I know that I'll be getting a great education."

Although Brown has done his homework on Notre Dame doesn't mean that there aren't other schools still under consideration. Jalen is going to take his time working his way through the recruiting process and keep his options open until later in the year.

"I followed just about every program as a kid because I loved watching football games. I do know a lot about Notre Dame, but I also know a lot about other schools too because I've always watched a lot of college football. I keep up with sports and all that.

"Right now I think I have ten scholarships. I think I probably have six schools that stand out right now; Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Baylor.

"I'll probably make a decision later, probably during my senior year," he added.
