French Considering Summer Visits

Christian French wants to get out this summer and see as many schools as he can. At this point the defensive end from John F. Kennedy High School (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) doesn't have any plans set in stone, but French is certain that he will visit Notre Dame.

Christian French (6-foot-6, 216-pounds) is one of Notre Dame's top recruiting targets at linebacker. Christian hasn't had a chance to do all of his homework on the schools recruiting him, but the Irish have certainly made an early impression on him.

"Coach Martin stopped in about two weeks ago," French said. "He visited with my coach, but really couldn't say anything to me other than ‘Hi', because of the NCAA rules. It was a good chance to see him. We stay in frequent contact either through email or I'll call him about once a week to keep him up to date on what's going on.

"Notre Dame is definitely one of the schools that I really have my eye on. For them to come down here and visit just shows their interest in me, and I'm going to get a chance to go up there and visit, so that shows the level of interest that I have in them. I'm very interested in what they have to offer."

Notre Dame will certainly be happy to host French. Christian still has a few weeks left in the school year, but once summer break hits, he plans to hit the road.

"I'm not sure what my plans are right now, but when the summer comes, we're going to map everything out," French explained. "Me and my dad are supposed to go to Notre Dame for another visit as soon as school gets out.

"I'd like to visit some other schools that are recruiting me, and possibly go to a camp. Oregon just came to visit and I got a chance to talk to the USC coaches on the phone. They said that they're interested and they want me to come out and check out one of their camps and see their facilities."

French recently picked up a scholarship offer from Nebraska to go along with offers he already held from Louisville, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Kansas, Kansas State, and Wisconsin. Christian is going to keep his options open for other schools, but a major influence on his decision will come this summer while he's taking unofficial visits.

"Those are schools that are showing me a lot of interest," he said. "I'm definitely liking them a lot. I'm not totally set on any school right now, because I'm not done with my evaluations of all the schools and part of that will be taking visits to all of those schools."
