Irish Make Cut, Get Visit

It isn't often that a recruit from Alabama decides to make an unofficial visit to Notre Dame over the summer, but defensive back Chris Jones from Minor High School (Adamsville, Ala.) will do just that next month.

Notre Dame will get the chance to impress Chris Jones (5-foot-10, 175-pounds) when he makes a visit to campus this summer. The versatile athlete likes what the Irish have to offer, but he wants to use Notre Dame's one-day camp to get a better feel for the football program.

"They're definitely in my top-5," Jones responded when asked about his interest in Notre Dame. "I'm going to be going up there for their camp June 27, so I have a good feeling about them. I want to get the feeling of playing there and I think I'd get an idea of what it would be like to be on the team.

"I just want to get the experience of going out of state. I want to see how I would feel about going to school that far away, if I was to choose Notre Dame. I know Notre Dame is an academic school so I want to find out more about them. I want to interact with the players, the coaches and get a feel for everyone in that area."

Jones recently pared his list of favorite schools down to five. The Irish made the cut along with Auburn, Florida, Vanderbilt and Louisville. Jones would still consider the Crimson Tide, but they haven't extended a scholarship offer at this time.

"I grew up an Alabama fan, but they haven't offered me yet," he explained. "I think they want me to come down to their camp this summer, so I'm going to try to do that and see what's up.

"Auburn is on top because I've been down there, actually I'm going down there this weekend. Florida is one of my top schools because I've been down there as also. That's what I'm trying to do with everyone else in my top-5, just go there and get a feel for how the coaches and players are.

"I like Vanderbilt because I can get a great education and that would be great. Louisville just got a new secondary coach and a new style of defense. With all the schools in my top-5 I'll have a chance to go in and start or make an impact as a freshman.

"I think I'll take a few official visits during the season so that I can narrow it down even more," he said. "I'll probably make a decision toward the end of my season." Top Stories
