Irish Pay Williams a Visit

Notre Dame is still searching for a quarterback for its 2011 recruiting class. Marquise Williams from Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.) is one of the top quarterbacks still on the market and Notre Dame's offensive coordinator Charley Molnar stopped in to watch him workout.

Marquise Williams (6-foot-4, 195-pounds) has had a slew of coaches visit him during the May evaluation period, and one of the last schools to make their way to his high schools was Notre Dame. The Irish still have Williams on their radar and would like him to take a trip to South Bend this summer.

"The offensive coordinator came up, so I went out and threw for him," Williams said. "It went pretty good. He told me how they were looking for a quarterback and they want the quarterback to commit to them sometime in the summer. He told me how bad they wanted me and told me to come down and see the campus. I think me and my coach are supposed to get to Notre Dame in a couple weeks.

"He asked if I would be ready to commit when I took the trip. So, he did say that he extended an offer. I'm just waiting for it. My coach is staying in contact with them, because he knows that I like Notre Dame. So right now we're just taking it day by day."

In the past, Williams talked about taking his official visits and deciding later in the recruiting process. Those plans could change if he felt that Notre Dame was the right spot for him.

"If I love the school and I feel it's the best fit for me, I could commit to Notre Dame," Williams said. "It's got a great tradition and if I fall in love with it, I think I would commit early. But until I get down there, and see what's going on, I wouldn't commit. I still need to get down there to see how it is and see if I like it or not.

It probably won't be that easy for Notre Dame grab Williams from Michigan, Virginia Tech, LSU and North Carolina, his other favorites. He already has two official visits set up.

"I have an official visit to Michigan set up for September 9, when they play Michigan State," he said. "I have another visit set for Virginia Tech October 16, when they play Wake Forest.

North Carolina and LSU called and talked my coach a couple weeks ago. I couldn't call them because I've been studying for exams that we have this week, so I haven't had a chance to talk to them. They wanted me to call them, but my dad made me hold off calling coaches because he wanted me to focus on these exams. Top Stories
