Xavier Carter is 6-3, 190 pounds and was timed at 4.35 at the Nike camp last year. He caught 28 passes for 757 yards and nine touchdowns for Palm Bay high school last year. His numbers are good enough to get the attention of all of the top programs in the country.
"I am getting letters from all the top schools. Pretty much every top team and all the others have contacted me. I have offers from South Carolina, Florida, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Central Florida, Louisiana State and Indiana so far." Expect many more offers on the way for Carter.
Carter is already qualified with a 3.0 core g.p.a. and scored an 820 on his first attempt at the S.A.T. "I am going to take that again. I was not happy with my score."
The star wide receiver also has an idea what type of school he is looking for. "I will look at the school and everything about it. The program, the academics, the social life and I want to play in a passing offense."
Leaving home is hard for some prospects but Carter doesn't expect that to be a problem. "I don't think that will be a problem. Some guys here like to stay local but I will go to the school that is right for me and it won't matter if it's close to home or further away."
Cater also has a tie to Notre Dame. "My Uncle is Alonzo Jefferson who is a former Notre Dame player. He really loves Notre Dame and has a lot of nice things to say about it. They are high on my list, I like their tradition. I think I am going to go to camp there this summer. I might also camp at LSU."
Before anyone gets excited, Carter was clear in his postion right now. "I am open to anyone. I don't have a favorite team or even a top 10 right now. I want to look at a lot of schools before I narrow anything down. I grew up liking UM (Miami) but I am wide open right now." Carter also said he might make an early decision so he could concentrate on his season.
Comments. The Irish have a very hard time pulling these top Florida prospects out of the state of Florida. Normally I would say that this will be a difficult job but if he attends camp, they should have a shot at him. His Uncle will also help. He fit the mold of a Notre Dame kind. He will be one of the top wide receivers in the country this year so hopefully the Irish will have a legitimate shot to land him.
