Chase Hounshell (6-foot-, 255-pounds) has more scholarship offers than he could have wished for, but he intends to make a trip to Notre Dame next week to see if he can land one more.
"I've been talking to my recruiting coach, coach Warinner," Hounshell said. "And he said if I perform well and the one-day camp on June 17, which I'll be attending, that an offer would be there. I'm looking forward to that and I'm ready to go.
"They're recruiting me as a defensive end. They said that I'm a perfect fit for their "3-4' defense. And I'm big enough to play there as a defensive end right now."
Despite his lengthy list of scholarships, Chase has begun to pare down his college options. And like most recruits, Hounshell intends to makes stops at a number of his top schools this summer.
"West Virginia, Iowa, Boston College, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, and Notre dame is up there for sure," Hounshell replied when asked to name the schools he is focusing on. "I have my whole calendar filled. I'm going to Cincinnati Monday, then I go to Illinois on June 16, then Notre Dame is June 17. The following week, I'll go to West Virginia, Iowa, Wisconsin, Boston College and then I go to Michigan State.
"My plan right now is that I want to commit a little bit before the season or during the season. If Notre Dam offered, that would probably speed things up and I'd have to take a good look at everything and try to make a decision."
