Atkinson Enjoys USC camp

Safety George Atkinson from Granada High School (Livermore, Calif.) has already had a busy summer. This weekend he was at the USC's "Rising Stars Camp" and caught up with him on his way home.

George Atkinson Granada High School (Livermore, Calif.) (6-foot-2, 195-pounds) is one of Notre Dame's top recruiting targets at wide receiver for the 2011 recruiting class. Atkinson remains interested in the Irish, but lately he hasn't had a lot of time to stay in contact with the Notre Dame coaching staff .

"Not much," Atkinson replied when asked about his contact with Notre Dame. "I haven't really talked to them lately. I've just been busy with a lot of football lately. I was going to call coach Denbrock with my coach today to follow up with some things, but I wasn't able to call them."

Something Atkinson did have to time for this weekend was to attend the USC "Rising Stars Camp". Atkinson is being recruited to play several positions at the next level, so he spent time at three different stations while at USC.

"The camp was good," Atkinson said. "There was a lot of competition out there. They really coach you up on things, so it was good. I worked out at running back, receiver and defensive back.

"I was pretty happy with my performance."

Atkinson was heading home when reached by IrishEyes, so we'll follow up with him soon to get additional feedback on his camp experience at USC as well as an update on his recruitment. Top Stories
