Showers Takes First Step With ND

Notre Dame recently started showing interest in cornerback Valdez Showers from Madison High School (Madison Heights, Mich.) Showers doesn't have a scholarship offer as of yet, but he'd like to see the Irish step up.

Valdez Showers holds 18 scholarship offers, but he wouldn't mind adding another, which is why he made unofficial visit to Notre Dame on Tuesday.

"They've been on me for a couple months," Valdez said. "The (Notre Dame) coaches wanted me to really come down and see the campus so my coach told me to go check them out.

"I talked to them about the campus and everything , but not much about the recruiting process. Coach Martin took us around the campus and everything. It's a very good looking campus."

Showers liked what he saw at Notre Dame, but if the Irish decide to extend a scholarship offer, he'd like to get back to Notre Dame to get a closer look at what the school has to offer.

"My interest is to get back down there and learn more about the campus," he said. "I don't know too much about them, so I want to sit down with an academic advisor and get back down there for a game. Of course, an offer has to be in place."

One offer that is in place is from the Florida Gators. Although there's a lot miles between his home and Gainesville, Valdez has a lot of interest in Urban Meyer's program.

"I have no preference, I'm just looking for the best fit," Showers replied when asked about distance factoring into his decision. "I went to check out Gainesville around June 16. It was beautiful down there. The coaching staff was great, the campus was great, and the academics were great. " Top Stories
