Notre Dame Still in the Mix for Flowers

Hakeem Flowers of Wade Hampton High School (Greenville, S.C.) has more than 40 scholarship offers, but he's having a difficult time narrowing that list of schools. With the start of football season approaching, he's hoping to make some decisions in the coming weeks.

The USC ‘Rising Stars Camp' is one of the top football camps in the country, so Hakeem Flowers (6-foot-3, 180-pounds) wanted to get out there and test himself against some of the top athletes in the country.

"I went out there for two days and I liked it," flowers said. "It was a great atmosphere. The completion was great. There were a lot of great athletes out there to go up against and see how good you were, so I liked the competition. I think I performed pretty good overall."

Flowers had a chance to visit UCLA while in Los Angeles, Calif. And he was impressed with the Bruin program. Notre Dame would like to get Hakeem on campus as well, but that might have to wait until the fall.

"I talked to coach Elston last week," Flowers said. "I told him that me and my dad were trying to get up for the Michigan game for an official visit. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it up there this summer like we thought. The summer went fast and we won't be able to make it.

"When coach Elston came during the recruiting period, he told me that I was one of the top receivers that they're going for. I like the relationship that we have going. It's a great relationship."

With the start of fall football camp on the horizon, Flowers knows that recruiting will start to pick up. His plan was to have his list of schools narrowed down at this point, but that process has been difficult for him.

"By this point I thought I'd have it narrowed down, but there are so many good schools out there that it has kind of made it hard to make a decision," he said. "I would like to have it done by the time my season starts.

"Notre Dame is definitely in the mix and me, my parents and my coach are really liking them right now." Top Stories
