Top linebacker lists Irish as a favorite

One of the top linebacker prospects in the country in 2004 will be Ramsey New Jersey's Brian Toal. Toal does his hitting for one of the top programs in New Jersey--Don Bosco Prep. Toal already has received seven offers already and is very interested in Notre Dame as well.

Brian Toal is listed at 6-2. 228 pounds. He told me he recently ran a 4.4 in the 40. "I had 112 tackles, 12 1/2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles on defense. I also rushed for 1,200 yards and 24 touchdowns and had about 400 receiving on offense."

College coaches have takent notice of Toal and quite a few have offered already. "Boston College, Rutgers, Iowa, West Virginia, Penn State and Wisconsin have offered. I have been receiving a lot of letters. Some on the west coast like Stanford and Colorago and a lot of schools in the midwest too."

Toal is also a pretty good student with a 2.9 g.p.a. and he scored a 960 on his S.A.T. "I plan to take it again. I wasn't happy with that score."

The hard-hitting linebacker says he really hasn't made any plans so far. "I am pretty open right now. I am not really sure if I will go to any camps this year. I will sit down with my Dad and discuss that but I haven't decided on if I will attend any camps."

Toal does know what he is looking for in a school. "The education will be very important. I think the football program is important and how they are doing right now. I want to get on the field as early as I can so that will also have an impact."

The Irish seem to be sitting pretty good with Toal right now. "I would say Notre Dame is right at the top right now. I went out for the Boston College last year and I really liked it there. I liked everything there but I am open right now. I want to take a look at all the schools interested in me."

Comments. The comments section are my thoughts and not the thoughts of the prospect.

Toal is going to be very heavily recruited this year. He should be one of the top 10-15 linebackers in the country. I would say it's a very good sign to have the Irish leading. He didn't say when he might commit but he might want to get it out of the way early. He seems very interested in Notre Dame and I think the Irish have a good chance to sign him. What we don't know yet is if the Irish will offer. I assume they will.
