Hounshell Focuses on Six

Chase Hounshell has narrowed his list of schools to six and the Irish are still in the mix. Notre Dame has not extended an offer to the defensive end from Lake Catholic High School (Mentor, Ohio), but that may change in the coming days.

Chase Hounshell (6-foot-5, 250-pounds) attended the Notre Dame football camp in June, hoping to walk away with a scholarship offer. Hounshell did impress the Irish staff with his effort, but Chase is still waiting to receive his written scholarship offer.

"It's still going day-by-day," Hounshell said. "I talked with coach Warinner last week and he said that I was definitely getting an offer, it's just a matter of when. All the coaches have been on vacation, so they haven't all been together to talk. He (Warinner) just said that I'm the next to get offered, and that I'm definitely getting offered, it's just when he can talk to coach Kelly and everyone else."

Despite lacking an offer from the Irish, Hounshell has kept them among the list of schools that he is still considering.

"My top six would be Notre Dame, Florida, Boston College, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan State," Chase said. "With Florida, it's something came out of the blue. I got a call from them last week and they said that I could definitely get an offer. I plan on taking a trip down there on Thursday and that will definitely wrap it up my visits for the summer.

"From there I might narrow it down a little more in the coming month and then take some official visits."

Hounshell has visited every school other than Florida, so he has a pretty good feel for his options at this time.

"Boston College; I love Boston," he said. "I can't say enough about the city of Boston. It's probably one of the best cities in the country that I've been to. I love the Boston College coaches too. I really connected with all of them. I have a great relationship with all of them. I was really impressed with Boston College which is why they're still one of my top schools.

"Iowa and Wisconsin are almost identical schools. I love the fan support for both schools. I love the facilities for both. I loved the coaches at both schools. I can't say enough about both Iowa and Wisconsin. Madison, Wisconsin is a great college town. It's a great place to be. Iowa City is a great town as well.

"Michigan State, the No. 1 thing about them is definitely the coaches," Hounshell said. "Coach Dantonio is great. The strength coach is amazing. I've developed a great relationship with all of them. They've been in my top for a while, ever since they offered. It's only four hours from home, so it's close, which is great. I really like Michigan State."
