Irish Eyes' Take: Justice Hayes

Justice Hayes is now a verbal pledge to Notre Dame. Irish Eyes takes a look at the newest member of the Class of 2011.

A couple of years ago, Brian Kelly earned the verbal pledge of Isaiah Pead on Signing Day when he was at Cincinnati. Now, at Notre Dame, Kelly has found a player much like Pead to become a major part of his offense in the coming years.

Much has been talked about Brian Kelly being able to draw in the top prospects from across the country. While Justice Hayes was just across a state line, he had plenty of programs looking to draw him into the fold. Kelly and staff won this battle and for good reasons.

Much like Pead, Kelly was able to show Hayes the many ways he'll be used in the new Irish offense. In the near future Irish fans will have a chance to see if Hayes can become the all-around offensive weapon many feel he has a chance to become.

What To Like

Justice Hayes now sits with a 4-star ranking from making him one of the top players in the country. His pledge adds to the already solid class Brian Kelly is building with more to come in the near future. On the field Hayes shows great cutback ability and elusiveness. But what sets him apart is his vision, a must for any running back in a spread/zone offense scheme.

What May Concern You

Some look at the physical size of Hayes and wonder if he's big enough. Yes, at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds, Hayes has the size needed for the Irish offense. What type of speed does Hayes really have? Having seen him in person I didn't see this as being a major issue. Hayes has the quickness you want and in the end this shouldn't be an issue.

Bottom Line

This is a huge get as Hayes is a "Primetime" player capable of being one of the top offensive performers at the college level. Notre Dame running backs coach Tim Hinton will be very happy once he gets the Grand Blanc (MI) product on campus and in uniform. Top Stories
