Sight Unseen

Jalen Brown's commitment came out of nowhere on Friday night. After seeing Justice Hayes and Anthony Rabasa commit to the Irish, the cornerback from MacArthur High School (Irving, Texas) decided to end his recruitment and pledge to play his college football for Notre Dame.

Jalen Brown (6-foot-0, 170-pounds) had talked about taking an unofficial visit to Notre Dame, but as the summer moved along, no plans were made. Seeing that, it appeared as if Notre Dame's chances of signing Brown were doubtful.

"I haven't been up to South Bend yet, but I'm not concerned, Brown said. "I know it is going to be a great place. They have so much fan support and I know the campus is going to be beautiful, just because everything they do, they do great, so I know I'll like the campus. Notre Dame is great school with football, academics and everything.

"I do have family in Indiana and Chicago. I really haven't talked to them, but my mom has talked to them. They all wanted me to go to Notre Dame because off the academics, and they wanted me to get a great education. With the athletics and the academics, they just think it's a dream come true, because Notre Dame is such a great school."

Brown became the 15th commitment in Notre Dame's 2011 recruiting class, selecting the Irish over Texas tech, Texas A&M and Nebraska.

"I just felt like Notre Dame was the best decision for me to make," he explained. "I've been thinking about it for the last month. I've been thinking about Notre Dame and playing for coach Kelly. They've been on my mind heavy, because I think we're going to be good.

"I called coach Cooks and told him that I wanted to commit. We talked about a lot of things, but talking to him just made me sure of my decision. I talked to coach Diaco as well. I know that they have a great coaching staff, because I've talked to everyone, but also the school is a wonderful place to be and a wonderful place to play.

"I've talked to a lot of the (committed) recruits and they said that they'd love to have me on the team and that they want me to play with them at Notre Dame. We have a great recruiting class, and we'll have a great team in the future, so we'll win some championships." Top Stories
