Hardy Had Them Screaming For More

Eilar Hardy has gotten use to people following his every action since becoming one of the countries top football prospects. But with his hometown fans screaming his name during and after his teams win, Hardy wanted to give them even more.

In the final game of the Kirk Herbstreit Kickoff Classic, Eilar Hardy of Pickerington (Ohio) Central High School looked to show why Notre Dame recruited him so hard. He did not disappoint showing his skills on defense, special teams, and on offense.

For the day Hardy played a solid safety registering 2.5 total tackles with one pass break-up. If that was not enough, Hardy also had a punt return for 44 yards. But Hardy was not done, and in the fourth quarter showed his overall athletic ability when his team needed it most.

With the score 23-20, Hardy reeled off a 55 yard touchdown run giving his team a nine point advantage and helping secure the second victory of this young season.

"I'm a big player in this community and our team came out here to win. My coached wanted me to come out here and do a lot for our team, and that is what I've got to do."

During the game Pickerington Central fans made their love known for the star safety. How does it feel to hear your name called out like today?

"My schoolmates love me out here. They came out here to support our team and we came out here and got the W. Like I said, they were a big factor to us winning today."

As an early pledge to Notre Dame, Hardy has been allowed to sit back and enjoy the early part of his senior season. How important was it to have the recruiting process out of the way?

"It has been a really big deal. I was glad I made my decision, now I just come out here to compete and not worry about anything else. All I have to do is worry about my senior year as I don't have to worry about my recruitment. I'm committed to Notre Dame, and all I have to do is come out here and compete."

On Saturday, Eilar took the time to watch his future teammates battle Purdue. What did he think about the Irish victory?

"They played real well. Coach Kelly has them going in the right direction and hopefully they will pull out the "W" against Michigan. Right now I'm planning on going up to the game on Saturday."

While Hardy had his share of good plays on the day, it was the touchdown run that got everyone pumped and excited. How did the run progress?

"Their whole defense was wearing out. Our coaches wanted us to come out here and pound them, just pound them. That is just what we did and the hole opened up, I just burst into the end zone for the touchdown."

Hardy and his teammates are happy they earned their second victory of the season. Next week is a by-week for Hardy, and he is looking forward to his visit to campus.

Irish Eyes will check back with Eilar after he returns from his visit next weekend.
