Junior Prospect - Nii Adjei Oninku

Clayton (OH) Northmont's Nii Adjei Oninku is one of the best defensive linemen the state of Ohio has to offer this year. Speaking of offers, he's already gotten a few, and more are sure to come...

Clayton Northmont's Nii Adjei Oninku is emerging as one of Ohio's top defensive line prospects. He is receiving heavy interest from many schools around the country as well as some early offers to go with it. He says he currently stands at 6-2, 225 and runs a 4.8 40.

"I lost weight due to basketball (18 pounds)," he said. I'm working now to put it back on."

So far, Oninku has offers from at least Michigan State, Northwestern, Miami (OH), and Kentucky (Northmont head coach Lance Schneider said that Nii Adjei also has received offers from Stanford and Duke). Many schools are paying close attention.

"I'm getting the most attention from Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Iowa," he said.

Nii Adjei is going to OSU senior advanced camp this summer (the only camp he's sure of so far), and if he had to pick five schools to visit right now, he would select Ohio State, Michigan State, South Carolina, Iowa, and Stanford. It will be interesting to see where these schools would want him to play as he can play either DT or DE and maybe even some LB.

"I like playing DE," he said. "That's where I want to play."

Oninku lists his favorite player as Warren Sapp and is a really likeable kid who is highly articulate. He said he is also running track this year. When it comes to college criteria, he's looking for a good engineering program, and he's also looking for that ring.

"I'm looking for a good solid football program that is looking for an opportunity to play for a championship," he said.

It could be a while before we find out where that is.

"I think I'm going to wait," he said.
