Things are going well with track though. For the first time, he participated in the 200 M and he ran a 22.6, and his 4x100 team has a time of 43.8, which is best in the state in his division.
"I'm running on the 4x100 and the 4x400 and right now," he said. "I'm not running on the open 100."
The 5-11, 205 pound back has a 3.0 GPA and took his test Friday. Right now, he is hearing from Big Ten schools, mostly Northwestern, Indiana, Michigan State, and Ohio State. His only offer is from Michigan State, and he hasn't been to check out any schools yet. He does plan on hitting at least one Big Ten school for camp this year though.
"I will go to Michigan State and I may go to Ohio State too," he said.
When it comes to a position, colleges are all saying they really don't know yet, but it doesn't seem to matter much to Pernell.
"I prefer running back, but I'll play anywhere," he said. "It's not going to make a big difference as far as my decision."
Either way, he has decided that he doesn't want to wait long to make a choice.
"I want to get it over with," he said. "I'll probably make a decision before the season."
