Duane (May 13, 2003 1:18:23 PM)
Hello, fire away with questions

Susan (May 13, 2003 1:18:57 PM)
Anything new from the Ferguson camp?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:19:45 PM)
Things are kind of quiet right now. I left that alone temporarily. I want to give it a bit more time before contacting.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:20:17 PM)
Freeman still looking good for us?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:21:30 PM)
I'm so much more confident than I was earlier with Freeman. The initial information I had about Freeman looking positive for the Buckeyes has been confirmed.

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 1:20:24 PM)
Should we be upset if Massey doesn't come to C-Bus? How much potential does he have?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:23:01 PM)
Massey, the jury is out due to the injury as the junior year. We will see as the season goes along.

cgbuck (May 13, 2003 1:20:30 PM)
Duane, Which of the big name QB recruits do you see OSU landing? Morelli, Brohm, Henne, Hoyer?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:24:05 PM)
QBs, outside of Hoyer, I don't know. Morelli is a possibility but right now I am not convinced that OSU lands him. I would not be surprised if Hoyer is the only big name there. With Zwick and Smith OSU doesn't really need a quarterback. It would be nice, but it is not something I would look at as a loss to the class

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 1:20:51 PM)
Duane, what OL's do you think will be offered eventually and hazard a guess as to who we get. Thanks, D

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:25:50 PM)
scribeohio I still think Cadogan will be offered and I feel like we will see Incarnato POSSIBLY, but most likely I see Clowser, Ryan Stanchek and the others in state as the possibilities to get offered. In addition to Cadogan those are my three guys.

Glassman (May 13, 2003 1:20:54 PM)
Who do you see as the next commitment and when.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:26:21 PM)
Glassman I am out of the prediction business. It causes too much trouble :)

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:21:50 PM)
Even with Kerr coming aboard??

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:27:26 PM)
bucknut13 Kerr will not have any impact with Freeman. They are players in a completely different class. Fans have gotten a little too excited about Kerr in my opinion.

Mike68 (May 13, 2003 1:22:32 PM)
Duane-Sorry if this has been asked as I just entered, but what is your take on how many OL we need to take and have you heard of any national Blue-chippers that are talking OSU

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:28:32 PM)
Mike68 I really do believe we take five OL no question, and maybe six. National blue chippers - Kyle Mitchum. He's as good as any OL this year I've seen on tape and after talking to his coach, I feel good about the Buckeyes' chances.

Susan (May 13, 2003 1:23:40 PM)
do you have a list of blue-chippers that plan to camp at osu?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:29:00 PM)
Susan - so many of the players I have been asking seem to have not settled on anything yet, so it is still a bit early to say

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:23:52 PM)
Are we still going after Hoyer? He looks like he has some real good potential and I would love to see him at OSU.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:29:31 PM)
bucknut13 - yes, Hoyer seems to be the only QB in Ohio that we are recruiting

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:26:50 PM)
Have you heard any more about us going after Alex Barrow?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:30:05 PM)
Regarding Barrow I have a call into the coach right now actually so hopefully I will have more on that soon

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 1:27:40 PM)
Duane, have you seen Henne/Morelli and can compare them to Hoyer who I really hope we get? Thanks, D.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:30:29 PM)
scribeohio I have yet to see Henne or Morelli

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:28:55 PM)
Does everything still look good for a Hoobler verbal? And if so, I can't tell which position he is better at.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:31:51 PM)
bucknut13 I feel confident about him being a Buckeye but we'll hear on the 27th. I like him as a linebacker.

juke joint jimmy (May 13, 2003 1:29:11 PM)
Duane, could you desribe the differences you see on tape between Braxton and Incarnato and why Braxton is rated higher?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:32:43 PM)
jimmy - Braxton is a more athletic player. Incarnato is a really good looking player but he just does not bring the athleticism that we see with Braxton.

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 1:31:18 PM)
Do you like Incarnato on offense or defense?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:32:57 PM)
I like Incarnato on offense, absolutely.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:31:28 PM)
Do you see Underwood receiving an offer or is it a numbers problem for him?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:33:31 PM)
bucknut13 - if Underwood doesn't get an offer, that's why. It's because of the numbers problem.

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 1:31:41 PM)
D, would you rate Hoyer between Brady Quinn and Zwick? If not how would you rate him? Thanks

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:34:48 PM)
scribeohio, I would rate Hoyer ahead of them. I really believe he has better physical tools than Zwick. I would put Quinn probably just below Zwick.

cgbuck (May 13, 2003 1:32:35 PM)
How many more WR's do you see OSU going after with one commit already? And who?

Kirk (May 13, 2003 1:35:58 PM)
cgbuck just due to athleticism in this year's players as well as the player's being lost, I can see as many as three more WRs this year. Davis of course is a player they really want

Mike68 (May 13, 2003 1:32:46 PM)
Do you see Hoobler as DE or LB?

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 1:32:55 PM)
When do the OSU camps start?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:40:10 PM)
Sloopy - I think the camps start the third weekend in June, whatever dates those are.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:33:12 PM)
What do you think of Jamel Benjamin getting an offer as a FB? Or do you like someone else better? Do we even offer a FB?

Kirk (May 13, 2003 1:36:49 PM)
bucknut13 I could definitely see a fullback offer, but not any time soon. I think we could see it at a later date. I don't know if you make it a priority.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:37:15 PM)
They would probably prefer not to have a fullback offer in this class if they could avoid it.

DaHawg (May 13, 2003 1:36:13 PM)
Hi Duane. Do you think the Bucks go after out of state recruits harder at first, then fall back on the more likley to commit in state recruits if the out of state recruits fall through? Do you think we have lost any real quality Ohio kids in the recent past because of this?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:39:25 PM)
DaHawg, I think they go after the highest ranked kids first wherever they are. As far as losing in state kids, it's simply a matter of you have to go after the top kids first and if a kid doesn't want to wait, there will be a kid that is lost because they want to wait for someone rated higher. I actually don't want to see that change

BuckNutty (May 13, 2003 1:36:32 PM)
If this has been asked already I apologize...do you like our chances with Kyle Mitchum?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:41:07 PM)
BuckNutty - yes I do like OSU's chances with Kyle Mitchum. His coach was a really forthcoming guy. I would not be surprised to see it come down to Ohio State and Penn State.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:36:36 PM)
Are we still looking good with Davis? I have to believe he would get significant playing time early on.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:42:00 PM)
bucknut13 - yes but don't be surprised if he waits until later. He wants to take visits. He could be a January or later decision.

juke joint jimmy (May 13, 2003 1:39:05 PM)
Duane , who needs to impress the coaches the most at camp to lock up a offer, and who is on the fence?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:42:46 PM)
jimmy - that list is a little bit too long to type out here but off the top of my head I will say Delbert Ferguson, Trumaine Smith, Chauncey Incarnato and Gerald Cadogan have the most to gain

Buck87 (May 13, 2003 1:39:15 PM)
Duane, I don’t know if you read the recent Sports Illus. article on Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s. It was about how he has completely changed the way they look at prospects for the Major League Draft. It was an excellent article. It got me thinking about Tressel and his recruiting philosophy. His method frustrates some of the posters on the board, yet he seems to stick to a very distinct doctrine for recruiting. He obviously likes character, grades and speed (who doesn’t), but there is more to it than just that. Can you try to give us more insight into his overall approach to recruiting?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:44:52 PM)
Buck87 - can't add much there. He seems to be looking for big framed kids who can run and kids with strong character and I don't know if there is much more to it than what you mentioned.

NWBuckeye (May 13, 2003 1:40:17 PM)
Duane, my first time at this...Do you see Dustin Fox moving back to safety at all any more?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:46:00 PM)
NWBuckeye - I still think there is a chance that can happen if they find they are more comfortable with the younger guys they have at corner. As soon as they are more comfortable with guys like Underwood, Youboty, etc there's a chance it could happen

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:41:14 PM)
Any thoughts on why Hoyer hasn't been offered yet?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:46:56 PM)
bucknut13 - I still think they'd like to see him grow and develop more and become a more consistent quarterback. He has all the physical tools.

BuckNutty (May 13, 2003 1:43:02 PM)
Do you see Cadogen or Clowser getting an offer after camp? Which is more likely?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:47:51 PM)
BuckNutty - It all depends on how they perform at camp but I think at least one will get an offer.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:44:20 PM)
Sorry to go back to the Freeman question again, but is Freeman the type to not get scared by numbers in the LB position? I saw video of him and he is really impressive and I sure hope we get him to come here.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:48:17 PM)
bucknut13 - the numbers won't have an impact on Freeman's decision. I don't think they will scare him.

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 1:48:06 PM)
Do you think Boeckman will play QB or another position, maybe TE?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:48:55 PM)
Sloopy - I think they will keep Boeckman at QB unless he shows that he can't do it. That's what they are bringing him in to do.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:48:13 PM)
Can DiFranco get an offer as a TE or is that not a priority with Irizarry coming in?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:49:38 PM)
bucknut13 - I have not heard anything about any tight ends (I count Hoobler as a LB) in Ohio. I haven't heard anything about DiFranco being a strong possibility

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 1:48:28 PM)
D, how do you see the addition of Jack Johnson to the OSU staff?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:50:12 PM)
scribeohio - as it stands right now, I haven't heard anything about what he is going to do so I can't say how he will help

Glassman (May 13, 2003 1:49:57 PM)
Have you noticed an increased interest in recruits because of the NC.

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:50:52 PM)
Glassman - yes in Ohio recruits as well as some outside but it is still early in the process and we haven't talked to enough recruits about that subject

BuckNutty (May 13, 2003 1:50:17 PM)
Other than Massey and possibly Hoobler, are there any other DE from Ohio that could get a look or will Coach Tressel have to go out of state?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:51:52 PM)
BuckNutty - Oninku is the name everyone keeps forgetting and he really is at the top of the list. I hear talk of OSU looking at him as a OLB but I think he is a DL all the way and so does he. The other one in state is Barrow

Buck87 (May 13, 2003 1:52:51 PM)
Which team is more talented -- 2002 or 2003?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:55:57 PM)
2003 is going to be a more talented team, there's no question. Last year at this time we thought this was the team that would make the run.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:53:03 PM)
Is Browning in the mix with OSU?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:56:15 PM)
I am trying to get in touch with Browning, I will have to answer that later or on the boards

BuckNutty (May 13, 2003 1:53:15 PM)
Do you have a gut feeling about Delbert's chances of getting an offer?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:56:43 PM)
BuckNutty - if he grows up a little bit and shows up to camp, yes. He's such a talented runner

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 1:54:02 PM)
Any gut feeling as to why Delbert's offer list is so short?

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:57:22 PM)
Sloopy - the hands thing is that big of a deal. It's a huge deal. NFL teams have been doing it for years and now we are seeing it here

juke joint jimmy (May 13, 2003 1:57:58 PM)
Duane, who is the one player you would pick outside of Ohio that OSU has offered, would sign and that would make the biggest impact on the national scene

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:59:16 PM)
jimmy I would say Willie Williams

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 1:58:02 PM)
Do you know if Delbert is going to camp here?

Susan (May 13, 2003 1:58:16 PM)
What do you know about QB Roby Reid from Texas. Someone on a UM board is claiming that his top 2 are OSU and FSU? Is he someone that OSU might offer?

Hubbard (May 13, 2003 1:58:45 PM)
OSU mught be Oklahoma State

Susan (May 13, 2003 1:58:55 PM)
no they're saying it's Ohio State

Hubbard (May 13, 2003 1:59:05 PM)
ok then

Duane (May 13, 2003 1:59:44 PM)
Last time I talked to Delbert he said that he was going to camp at OSU

Hubbard (May 13, 2003 1:59:46 PM)
I think its gonn abe hard to pull WW out of Florida though

Susan (May 13, 2003 1:59:48 PM)
paste............It appears the Buckeyes have thrown their hat in the ring for Robbie Reid, QB from Texas. Originally he was thought as a Longhorn lock, he even said he'd commit if offered, but Texas is putting all their eggs in the Rhett Bomar basket, and not offering another QB

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:00:13 PM)
Sorry I don't really know much about Robbie Reid yet

Susan (May 13, 2003 2:00:43 PM)
here's more......At the Nike Camp in College Station he weighed in at 6"3, 224 and ran a 4.46, and vertical jump of 37 inches. He is an incredible athlete, maybe the best pure athlete in the country.

Glassman (May 13, 2003 2:00:57 PM)
Insider list Oklahoma State.

Susan (May 13, 2003 2:01:15 PM)
Maybe the um poster got it wrong then

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:01:27 PM)
What message board is that?

Susan (May 13, 2003 2:01:52 PM)
not sure..it's pasted on bsb from a um board...i'll see if i can find out

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 2:03:11 PM)
Any one getting buzz that surprises you Duane?

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:04:50 PM)
No. I just can't say there is someone who is getting attention that I am surprised at. There are players like Erik Haw that I am surprised are not getting more attention but not the guys who are getting attention.

Susan (May 13, 2003 2:04:27 PM)
found it..it's on michigan's rivals site.. http://michigan.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=39&tid=17907905&sid=&style=2

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 2:05:45 PM)
Has Reggie Smith qualified yet?

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:07:35 PM)
I don't know if he is qualified or not. I have not been keeping track but I assume everything is on track.

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 2:06:44 PM)
D, could you recall your thoughts about Zwick's arm. I have read some posts saying that his passes float/flutter (?). JT hasn't mentioned anything about it.

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:08:27 PM)
Zwick was having hamstring problems but without the hamstring injury I don't think it would be an issue.

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 2:07:19 PM)
Have you had any contact with Irizarry, Hiley, any other players who start in the Fall and what are they saying?

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:09:00 PM)
Haven't spoken to any of those players recently. I thought about calling Louis after the spring game but haven't yet.

juke joint jimmy (May 13, 2003 2:07:46 PM)
Duane, has Crable or Burgess qualified?

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:09:25 PM)
If Crable and Burgess have qualified it is news to me

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:09:59 PM)
I have to log off in a couple minutes, any last questions?

bucknut13 (May 13, 2003 2:10:25 PM)
Nope, thanks for your time Duane.

juke joint jimmy (May 13, 2003 2:10:39 PM)
Thank's Duane

Glassman (May 13, 2003 2:10:39 PM)
Thanks Duane.

Susan (May 13, 2003 2:11:05 PM)
Thank you , Duane.

scribeohio (May 13, 2003 2:11:06 PM)
Thanks, D.

HangOnSloopy (May 13, 2003 2:11:09 PM)
Thanks DL

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:12:53 PM)
Ok. Talk to you all soon. Thanks for stopping by.

Duane (May 13, 2003 2:15:21 PM)
See you all later.
