Recruiting Update - Mark Petruziello

A QB to keep an eye on this year is Mentor Lake Catholic's Mark Petruziello. He missed much of the 2002 season due to injury, but he will try to rebound this year.

Mentor Lake Catholic Quarterback Mark Petruziello and his family are no strangers to the recruitment process. Dave Petruziello, Marks's brother, was heavily recruited out of high school and was a Big Ten honorable mention offensive lineman for Michigan. Like his brother, Mark is being courted by some major football programs including Ohio, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Iowa, and Michigan rival Ohio State.

Mentor Lake Catholic head football Coach Mike Bell feels Petruziello is talented enough to fit into any program. "He wants to go where they throw the ball and run a little," explains Coach Bell.

At first look, Petruziello's size can be deceiving. At 6'2", 190 pounds, Petruziello may lack the size that some programs are looking for, but as Coach Bell explains, Petruziello makes up for it with his competitiveness. "People think he is smaller than he actually is, but coaches are impressed with his confidence, running ability, and his decision making," say Coach Bell.

Voted Co-Captain by his teammates for the 2003 season, Petruziello only played two games last season. As a result, coaches are taking a "wait-and-see" approach to Mark. Despite his strong arm and athleticism, camping well this summer and having a good senior season taking the snaps for the Mentor Lake Catholic Cougars will definitely make his stock rise.
